Etymology: Unexplained; cf. θελημ(ν)ά (τε καὶ στερεωπά) Emp. 21, 6; taken as "what is basic", Solmsen Wortforsch. 63 w. n. 2; cf. on -θελυμνος. Fur. 317 thinks the word is Pre-Greek (suffix -εμος).
